*Akshay means that which never decays or which never gets destroyed. Hindus believe that the benefits of worship, almsgiving, chanting, penance, and good deeds performed on this auspicious day do not diminish. It is said that Akshaya Tritiya is a lucky day. It is also known as Parashuram Jayanti on this day. This day is believed to have been the birthdate of Parashuram, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu. People who follow the Hindu and Jain religions both celebrate this festival. The date of Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Krit Yugadi Tritiya, is considered to represent the beginning of Treta Yuga and Satya Yuga according to religious beliefs. Goddess Parvati is the ruling deity of Akshaya Tritiya. Yudhishthir received Akshaya Patra from Lord Krishna on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. Giving alms on the day of Akshaya Tritiya is also seen to have particular meaning because it is believed that there was never a scarcity of food or money in this period and that Yudhishthir utilized this period to feed those in need. It was also on the day of Akshaya Tritiya that Ganga descended into Earth. Because of this, the day of Akshaya Tritiya is particularly significant for doing auspicious tasks.
